The transformation of downtown streets into a professional racing venue has officially begun as construction starts for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Over the next 50 days, crews will install more than 2,400 concrete barriers to form the safety
perimeter of the 1.97-mile, 11-turn Long Beach street circuit. Workers will also assemble 14
large grandstands positioned throughout the course to accommodate race spectators.
City leaders and event organizers gathered today to mark the start of Long Beach Grand Prix
track construction. Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson joined representatives from Acura and
LiUNA Local 1309, along with executives from the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach, for a ceremonial concrete block placement. The block was set at what will become Turn 10 of the racecourse.
Jim Michaelian, President and CEO of the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach, emphasized the importance of the milestone. He noted that the start of construction signals the transition from planning to execution and begins the visible transformation of the city’s streets into a world-class racing circuit.
“This is always a great day because the moment we begin building the racetrack is when it all
truly comes to life. You can feel the energy start to build across the city as our team transforms the streets of Long Beach into a world-class racing venue" Michaelian stated.
As installation progresses, the city will gradually shift from everyday traffic patterns to a secured competition-ready layout, preparing to host one of the most recognized events in North American motorsports.
