Formula E champion Jake Dennis believes Brands Hatch would be the best option to host the series’ British round if the championship is forced to leave London after next season.
The future of Formula E’s London E-Prix has come under increasing doubt following the launch of the new Gen4 car, which will debut next year with greater power, increased size and updated technical requirements. The changes are expected to make some of the series’ tighter street circuits unsuitable, including the indoor-outdoor layout at ExCeL London.
Dennis, who won the Formula E world title in London in 2023 with Andretti, said the
championship is already looking at alternative venues in the UK.
Speaking to SunSport the British driver said; “The Gen4 car just won’t fit around London, so we have to move away from there,” ahead of the Monaco E-Prix.
According to Dennis, Brands Hatch and Silverstone are currently the strongest candidates to
replace the capital venue.
While Silverstone offers multiple circuit configurations and the infrastructure associated with
Formula One and MotoGP, Dennis admitted his personal preference would be Brands Hatch.
“I would say my preferred track is Brands Hatch,” he explained. “The circuit is amazing, but
there would need to be some modifications made in terms of trying to get enough regeneration into the car.”
He noted that some sections of Brands Hatch may not currently provide enough heavy braking zones for Formula E’s energy recovery systems, although adjustments could potentially solve the issue.
Dennis also reflected on his strong connection to the London circuit, where he secured the 2023 championship in front of a home crowd. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the venue’s future, he said the move away from London is “completely understandable” given the demands of the new generation of cars.
The new Gen4 Formula E cars are larger and more powerful, making tight circuits like the ExCeL London layout harder to use safely. As a result, Brands Hatch and Silverstone are currently viewed as the leading alternatives for a future British E-Prix.
