The Miami Grand Prix has announced Katharina Nowak as its new president, marking a
significant milestone as she becomes the youngest leader in the event’s history. The
appointment was confirmed by Tom Garfinkel, managing partner of the grand prix, following the successful tenure of Tyler Epp.
Epp’s leadership since 2022 transformed the Miami GP into one of Formula 1’s most popular
destinations, with record-breaking attendance and global viewership. Nowak, who previously
served as vice president of business operations, steps into the role with a clear focus on
innovation, fan engagement, and long-term growth.
In her statement, Nowak expressed gratitude for the opportunity and emphasized her
commitment to maintaining the Miami GP’s reputation for delivering a world-class motorsport experience. Her appointment signals a new era for the event, reinforcing Miami’s position as a key stop on the Formula 1 calendar through its extended contract until 2041.
Katharina Nowak’s promotion follows the impactful leadership of Tyler Epp, who helped shape the Miami Grand Prix into one of Formula 1’s most prominent U.S. events. Since joining the F1 calendar in 2022, the Miami GP has seen rapid expansion, beginning with a sell-out crowd of 242,955 during its debut weekend at Hard Rock Stadium. The following years only strengthened its reputation — 2023 drew 3.1 million television viewers, setting a record for the largest F1 audience in U.S. history. By 2025, attendance grew to 275,000, cementing the event’s global appeal and prompting an extension of its contract with Formula 1 through 2041.
Epp’s departure comes as he moves on to “an important role in the motorsports industry,”
leaving behind a strong operational foundation. His successor, Nowak, has played a crucial role in the event’s development since its inception, ensuring a seamless transition in leadership. Garfinkel, in his statement, described Nowak as “one of the most talented young executives,” expressing full confidence in her ability to advance the event’s success.
Before taking on the presidency, Katharina Nowak built an extensive track record within the
Miami Grand Prix organization. She joined the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium
enterprise in 2019, contributing across multiple departments, including corporate partnerships and business operations. Her leadership and attention to operational excellence led to her promotion as vice president of business operations in 2024, where she played a key role in managing logistics, sponsorship activations, and event execution.
In her new role, Nowak has emphasized a focus on maintaining the event’s high standards while pushing forward with fan-centered innovation. She acknowledged the vision of Steve Ross, Tom Garfinkel, and Tyler Epp, crediting them for their leadership and investment. Nowak stated her commitment to ensuring that every edition of the Miami GP delivers both elite on-track performance and a world-class fan experience. Her appointment symbolizes not just continuity but a new chapter in the event’s evolution.
Alongside Nowak’s appointment, John Murphy has been promoted to Managing Director of
South Florida Motorsports, expanding his responsibilities to include all motorsport events
hosted at the Miami International Autodrome. Murphy, who has been involved with the Miami
GP since its inception, most recently served as Vice President of Sporting and Racing Operations. His promotion complements Nowak’s leadership, reinforcing a cohesive management structure aimed at strengthening Miami’s standing in the global motorsport arena.
