Thailand has moved forward with its bid to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix in Bangkok. The Sports Authority of Thailand has released the first draft of a 5.7-kilometre, 18-corner clockwise street circuit designed for a potential debut in 2028. The government previously approved a US $1.2 billion proposal to secure a five-year race contract running through 2032.
Officials view the project as a way to increase tourism and strengthen Thailand’s position in
global motorsport. The plan places the event in either March or September to fit Formula 1’s
calendar. Construction is expected to take one to two years once approved.
Support for the race includes input from Thai F1 driver Alex Albon, who called the project
promising. Thailand already hosts MotoGP at Buriram, but authorities believe a Bangkok street circuit would offer stronger international visibility.
If completed, the length of the proposed circuit would make it the eighth-longest circuit, falling between Monza and the Circuit of the Americas in the rankings.
