Formula 1 has secured the future of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, confirming the Baku City Circuit will remain part of the championship until 2030. The agreement strengthens F1’s presence in the region and highlights Baku’s growing reputation as one of the most exciting and unpredictable street tracks on the calendar.
Since its debut in 2016, the Azerbaijan GP has become a fan favorite, known for its combination of long straights and narrow corners that often produce dramatic races. The extension was welcomed by F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, who praised the energy and commitment shown by Azerbaijan in hosting the event.
Local officials also expressed their satisfaction, emphasizing how the race showcases the country on a global stage and boosts its international profile. With this renewed deal, Formula 1 and Azerbaijan look set to continue building a strong partnership that will keep Baku at the heart of the sport’s future.
Introduced to the Formula 1 calendar in 2016, the Baku City Circuit quickly made its mark. The street track’s unique layout blends high-speed straights with tight, technical corners, creating unpredictable racing and frequent moments of drama. Its signature long straight, one of the longest in F1, often sets the stage for daring overtakes, while the narrow castle section demands precision and control. These contrasting features have helped make the Azerbaijan Grand Prix one of the most talked-about races each season.
Beyond its technical demands, the event has also stood out for its vibrant atmosphere. Fans,
both local and international, have embraced the Grand Prix, turning it into one of the most
celebrated weekends on the calendar. Over the years, Baku has hosted races that not only
shaped championship battles but also delivered iconic highlights that continue to define
Formula 1’s modern era.
The contract extension reflects Formula 1’s long-term vision for Baku. Stefano Domenicali, F1’s President and CEO, praised the race’s value to the sport, noting that the Azerbaijan Grand Prix consistently delivers thrilling action for fans worldwide. He highlighted the country’s commitment to hosting world-class events and acknowledged the efforts of local organizers in maintaining high standards. Domenicali emphasized that securing Baku until 2030 strengthens the championship’s global calendar by keeping one of its most dynamic venues in place.
