In a strategic shift, NASCAR will not include Mexico City in its 2026 Cup Series schedule, as
reported by The Athletic. The decision stems from complex logistics and scheduling conflicts, notably the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place across Mexico, Canada, and the U.S.
Mexico City made history in 2024 as the site of NASCAR's first international points-paying race in the modern era. However, with the World Cup occupying key venues and dates, officials have opted to redirect efforts toward securing a slot for 2027.
Prior discussions considered a joint weekend with IndyCar, but NASCAR has since prioritized its long-term return. This move gives IndyCar room to establish its own Mexico event, expected in 2026.
Meanwhile, NASCAR confirmed a 2026 San Diego race, with a likely return to Chicagoland
Speedway, maintaining a footprint in Illinois during the Chicago Street Race’s hiatus.
