Turkey is aiming for a permanent return to the Formula 1 calendar, offering Istanbul Park as a potential venue from 2026. The track, first introduced in 2005, hosted seven races before being dropped in 2011. It briefly returned in 2020 and 2021 during the pandemic.

According to Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED) president Eren Uclertopragi, the government strongly supports securing a long-term agreement with Formula 1. While the 2026 schedule is already set, Turkey is ready to step in if any planned event — such as Madrid’s new street race — faces delays.

Uclertopragi highlighted Turkey’s advantages: a passionate fan base, a thriving automotive market, and strategic proximity to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. September has been suggested as an ideal month for the event due to favorable weather and logistical ease for teams.

With the Dutch and Spanish Grands Prix expected to leave the calendar after 2026, Turkey is positioning itself among several nations vying for those openings.
