In a bold move to revitalize the region and embrace its sporting heritage, the President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, announced an investment of nearly €24 million aimed at restoring the infrastructure of Cheste and the renowned Circuit Ricardo Tormo. This funding is crucial for hosting the Grand Prix of the Comunitat Valenciana, scheduled to take place from November 14 to 16, and is part of a broader effort to foster emotional recovery in the community.
During a recent visit to the Circuit, which was impacted by severe flooding, Mazón was joined by key figures including the Minister of Environment, Infrastructure and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, Circuit Director Nicolás Collado, and Cheste's Mayor, José Morell. Together, they inspected ongoing restoration efforts in the area.
Mazón highlighted a significant milestone in the recovery process: the provisional reopening of the main entrance to the Circuit, which received a €1 million investment. This development is essential for restoring normalcy and activity in the vicinity of the Circuit.
In the initial phase of recovery, access routes are being reopened to facilitate traffic, with plans for comprehensive repairs to follow. This emergency initiative is part of a larger strategy involving 54 local projects across twenty municipalities affected by the floods, with the Generalitat committing €50 million to support these communities in their urgent need for intervention.
In addition to the main access investment, the Ministry of Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory has allocated €8 million for the improvement of the CV-50 highway and the construction of a bypass, which will restore traffic flow on a road that sees approximately 15,600 vehicles daily. Moreover, an additional €5 million has been earmarked for the restoration of water infrastructure and the local wastewater treatment plant.
The Circuit Ricardo Tormo also contributed significantly to the recovery, investing nearly €10 million in enhancing parking facilities and access points. Over €3.5 million has been dedicated to repairing the main parking area adjacent to the Sechara ravine, while €6.5 million is being used for public parking and access to the northern section of the Circuit. Minor repairs inside the facility have received €770,000.
Expressing gratitude for the "tremendous work" of the technical and human teams involved, Mazón reaffirmed the importance of this year's Grand Prix, celebrating its 25-year legacy and looking forward to many more in the future. He also announced a partnership between the Generalitat and Dorna to secure the Grand Prix at least until 2031, noting that tickets for the event have already gone on sale, with expectations for a sold-out event, boosting local business and tourism.
In addition to Circuit enhancements, Mazón updated on ongoing recovery efforts, including the reopening of the bridge between Massanassa and Catarroja over the Poyo ravine, with plans to open the CV-36 bridge on June 10, allowing for the reestablishment of 6 kilometers of highway access to key industrial zones in Aldaia, Alaquàs, and Torrent.
Mazón emphasized that recovery efforts are progressing at a commendable pace, funded entirely through debt without any grants from the central government, highlighting the Generalitat's commitment to rebuilding and supporting affected communities.
